Pink Formal Dresses

Pink is an iconic color. From Glinda the Good Witch to Elle Woods, shades of pink embody femininity and can exude romantic vibes. They can also evoke feelings of joy, especially in brighter, bold shades.

Pink formal dresses can be lovely any time of the year. During spring events, pink can call back to the flowers blooming outside, and during wintertime, a pink gown can add a sense of much-needed playfulness.

Speaking of, there are tons of events you can wear a pink formal dress to. Some of our favorites include garden parties, high tea, Valentine’s Day date night, and fundraiser galas.

Light Pink Formal Dresses

Formal dresses in light shades like baby pink, ballerina pink, or other pastels have a soft look. With the right detailing, like a corset or ruffles, these dresses can feel ultra-romantic and flirty. Shades of light pink can also be a nice alternative to a white formal dress, though it may be too light for a wedding, depending on the hue.

Light pink tends to complement both cool and warm skin undertones. Keep in mind that if you have very fair skin, certain shades of very light pink may make you appear washed out in photos. You may want to test how your dress looks on you in pictures before committing to it.

When accessorizing a light pink formal dress, you can’t go wrong with metallics and demure designs. Since the color is on the lighter side, your look can easily be thrown off-balance by a very bold statement necklace. You may want to consider dainty jewelry and shoes that either match your skin tone or feature delicate designs (sandals tend to be a great option).

Dark Pink Formal Dresses

Deep shades of rose and pinks that are close to violet offer a sophisticated spin on what’s usually a whimsical color. If your event allows for a sense of bold whimsy with your pink look, you can go all out with a saturated, bright pink gown, though keep in mind that a hot pink gown may not be as versatile as a more subdued shade.

Deeper shades of pink that have cool undertones tend to make cool skin and hair undertones pop. Bright pinks are usually on the warmer side and complement warm undertones, though. Regardless of your own coloring, don’t be afraid to wear any pink dress that you’re in love with!

Much like with lighter shades, you can’t go wrong accessorizing a bold or dark pink with metallics (gold in particular tends to be stunning!) Darker shades of pink also tend to pair nicely with blue, lighter pinks, or a pop of black.

Short Pink Formal Dress

Most formal events require a long gown, but for some events, like garden parties and cocktail attire weddings, you can go with a short formal dress. Short formal dresses have the benefit of being easier to dance in than a floor-length ball gown.

When you’re picking out a short formal dress for an event, ensure your hemline isn’t too short, of course. You may want to consider opting for a deeper shade of pink to maintain formality and keep the color solid, rather than opting for a print. Add elbow-length gloves to further elevate your look.

Silhouettes that aren’t completely form-fitting will also look more formal than tight dresses. Try an A-line dress with a fitted bodice that flares out at the skirt to balance playfulness and formality for your event.

Long Pink Formal Dress

When you think of a formal dress, it’s typically floor-length or a touch shorter. Depending on the event, a fitted gown or a gown that has more volume will be appropriate. Sleeker silhouettes tend to be more versatile, so you can wear them to other events, whereas a ball gown may sit in your closet.

The color pink is already a little less formal than other colors (compared to black, for instance), but if you’re looking for an extra sense of whimsy for your event, you can opt for a print. Florals tend to be popular pink prints and can be a beautiful way of bringing spring and summer blooms into your event (or, if it’s winter, the blooms that you wish were outside).

If you’re getting your dress altered for height, be sure to wear your event shoes to your fitting so your dress doesn’t end up too long or short for them. If there’s going to be lots of dancing or standing at the event, make sure you can move in your shoes so you can make an entrance with confidence.
