Jumpsuits and pantsuits, for anyone who would rather not wear a dress to a formal evening.

The shapes

Most of these are one-piece jumpsuits; the rest are two-piece pantsuits, several built with a long-sleeved blazer over a slim trouser. V necks are the most common neckline, then off-the-shoulder and strapless.

Fabric and finish

Scuba leads the fabrics, giving these styles their structure, with sequin and lace behind it and stretch fabrics and satin after. Beadwork is by far the most common finish, with corset bodices, open backs and feather trims on a smaller number.

Colour

Black leads clearly, then red and ivory, with navy behind and gold and peacock at the richer end.
