How Sherri Hill sizing works
Formal wear is sized differently from everyday clothing. Sherri Hill gowns follow structured formal sizing, so most people wear a larger number here than they do in jeans or streetwear — commonly one to two sizes up. That's normal, and it isn't a reflection of your everyday size.
Fit also depends on the dress. Fitted silhouettes like sheath and mermaid styles need accurate measurements; A-line and ball gown styles are more forgiving through the hips.
The reliable method is to measure your bust, waist and hips and compare them to the chart below, rather than ordering the size you usually wear. Choose the size that fits your largest measurement — a gown can be taken in far more easily than it can be let out.
Plan on alterations
Nearly every formal gown is finished by a seamstress. Off-the-rack dresses are cut to a standard chart, not to an individual body, so hems, bust and waist are usually adjusted. Budget time and money for it, and ask your retailer whether they alter in house or can recommend someone experienced with beaded fabrics.
Sizes 000 to 26
Sherri Hill styles are offered in sizes 000 through 26. Which sizes are cut for a given style, and which a store has in stock, varies — your nearest authorized retailer can check.
