Call ahead, it's worth the two minutes
We don't see what any individual store is holding on a given day, and stock moves quickly once a season gets going. Two shops a few miles apart can have completely different racks. So before you make the trip, call, give them the style number, and ask what they have in your size. The people in these stores know the dresses well, and they'll tell you honestly whether it's worth your afternoon.

If you want something made for you
A handful of our retailers do custom and made-to-measure work. They're generally listed under the Couture filter. If you have something particular in mind, start there and talk it through with the store.
When the new collections arrive
A spring collection starts reaching stores as early as late October or early November of the year before, and is usually in fully by the end of January. If you want the widest choice of styles and sizes, come early in that window; the best racks are the early ones.
A word on sizing before you go
Our styles are cut in sizes 000 through 26, though not every style is made in every size. Formal sizing isn't street sizing, and many people wear one to two sizes larger here than they do everyday, so try not to walk in attached to a number. Fitted styles depend on accurate bust, waist and hip measurements; A-line and fuller skirts are more forgiving. Most gowns bought off the rack need some alteration. A good seamstress can do remarkable things, but how far a dress can be taken in or let out depends on how it's built and beaded, so let her see the dress itself.

Dress registries
Some stores keep a registry, recording which gown is going to which school or event, so that no one else arrives in the same dress. It isn't a brand-wide programme and it varies from shop to shop, so ask when you call.
Buying the real thing
