Fall 2017 was split almost exactly between gowns and cocktail dresses, and it leaned harder on texture than on embellishment.

Silhouette and neckline
The two-piece led, with A-line behind it and ball gown, mermaid and fitted styles in smaller numbers. Halters were the most common neckline, then high necks, V necks, off-the-shoulder and sweetheart, a wider spread than later seasons show.
Fabric and finish
Lace led, but scuba was close behind and velvet was a real part of the season, giving it a heavier hand than the spring before. Beadwork was the dominant finish by a long way, with prints, cut-outs and applique work behind it.
Colour
Black led clearly, then ivory and red, with navy behind and royal and gold at the season's richer end.
