Spring 2019 was a season of full skirts. Ball gown, mermaid and A-line came through in near-equal measure, and the two-piece was still a real part of the range.

Silhouette and neckline

Necklines were more varied than they are now. Strapless led, but V necks, off-the-shoulder, one-shoulder and high necks all had a genuine presence. The lace-up back was a period detail, appearing right across the season, and gowns outnumbered short styles overwhelmingly.

Fabric and finish

Lace was far ahead of everything else, then satin, chiffon, tulle, taffeta and mikado. Prints and beadwork carried most of the decoration, with ruffles and slits through the fuller skirts.

Colour

Black and red led, with light blue, ivory and yellow behind them.
