Fall 2019 was a cocktail season. Short styles outnumbered gowns by a wide margin, which sets it apart from almost every spring collection.

Silhouette and neckline

A-line led the season by a distance, with fitted and ball gown behind and the sheath in smaller numbers. V necks were most common, then halters, sweethearts and high necks, with strapless further down than usual.

Fabric and finish

Lace led comfortably, then satin, sequin, tulle and glitter fabrics. Beadwork was the season's main decorative language, with the lace-up back on a large share of styles and corset bodices, slits, open backs and cut-outs behind it.

Colour

Black led, then navy, with red, light blue, ivory and yellow behind.
