About Fall 2020

Fall 2020 was a short season, smaller than the ones on either side of it, and the only one in this stretch where cocktail dresses clearly outnumbered gowns.

The shapes

Fitted led by a wide margin, with A-line and the column behind it and ball gown and mermaid rare. V necks were the most common neckline, then sweetheart, strapless and one-shoulder.

Fabric and finish

Lace dominated the season, well ahead of sequin, with stretch fabrics, tulle, satin and jersey behind. The lace-up back and beadwork were the two details used most, with ruching, slits and corset bodices on a smaller number.

Colour

Red and black led, then light blue and navy, with gold and emerald giving the season its autumn edge.
